Focus on Christ, not on the chaos!

Life has a way of throwing you into storms you didn’t see coming: unexpected bills, a health scare, a broken relationship, or sudden changes that make you feel powerless. When circumstances spin beyond your control, anxiety can easily take the wheel. Check out How to Have Faith in the Midst of the Storm.

But peace isn’t the absence of problems. True peace is the calm assurance that God is still in control, even when you’re not.

If you hit stormy waters, do the following:

1. Shift Your Focus from the Chaos to Christ

Peter walked on water toward Jesus without sinking. He stayed afloat until he looked at the wind and the waves. He panicked, fear came, and he started sinking. The same is true in stormy situations: panic, fear, then despair. The more you fix your eyes on the storm, the more fear takes over. But when you focus on  He who calms the storms, His presence steadies your heart. Focus on Jesus, not on chaos.

2. Surrender What You Can’t Control

Some things are simply beyond our control. Change what you can, and accept what you cannot. Instead of exhausting yourself trying to fix the unfixable, release it into God’s hands. Surrender to Jesus isn’t giving up; it’s trusting that God can do more to fix it than you ever could.

3. Anchor Yourself in God’s Word

When everything around you feels shaky, Scripture is your unshakable anchor. Find verses that remind you of God’s promises and speak them over your life. Let His truth be louder than your fears. Look for how the Bible handled similar situations like yours, and use that pattern to guide your actions while you trust God and pray.

4. Create Moments of Stillness

Step away from the noise and quiet your mind, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Peace often comes in the quiet. Breathe deeply. Pray. Listen. God often whispers His reassurance in the still moments you make for Him. God always makes a way of escape. In silence, you can receive ideas on how to tackle your challenge.

5. Remember God’s Track Record

God has a track record. Remember what He’s famous for. He has no rival and no equal. Your situation can’t confound Him. There’s a solution to every problem. Reflect on other times when you didn’t see a way forward, but God made one. The same God who came through then hasn’t changed. His faithfulness in the past is a promise for your future. Trust Him.

Final Encouragement:
Peace doesn’t come from having all the answers. It comes from knowing the One who holds all the answers. Even when life feels wildly out of control, you can rest knowing it’s still in the hands of a loving and sovereign God.

Reflection Question: What’s one burden you can hand over to God today instead of trying to carry on your own?
Prayer:
Lord, You see the storms around me. Help me to keep my eyes on You instead of the chaos. I surrender the things I can’t control, and trust that You are working for my good. Fill me with Your peace that passes all understanding. In Jesus Name, Amen.
