Finding your purpose begins with clarity; clarity about who you are. Purpose is not discovered in the abstract; it flows from your identity.
Your identity is more than your name or your job title. It is your:
- Nature and origin – Who made you? Why are you here?
- Abilities and limitations – What strengths, traits, and talents make you distinct? Where do you struggle?
- Current state and functions – What roles do you currently carry in family, society, or work?
A clear identity creates the foundation for purpose. Without it, you chase shadows, confuse roles for calling, and risk building a life on someone else’s blueprint.
Practical tools to help you clarify identity:
- Take personality assessments (e.g., CliftonStrengths, DISC, Enneagram).
- Reflect on your life story: what themes, struggles, and wins keep repeating?
- Ask trusted people: “What do you see as my unique contribution?”
When you weave these insights together, you begin to see a picture of who you truly are, and clarity opens the doorway to purpose.
Take Action
Take time this week to write a one-page summary of who you are — your nature, strengths, limitations, and current roles. When you see yourself clearly, you take the first step toward living with purpose.
