Clarity is the starting point. Direction is the compass. Once you know who you are, you must locate your place of purpose; the space where your identity is meant to operate.

Your place of purpose may be:

  • Spiritual (like Paul, who only discovered purpose after encountering Christ).
  • Geographical (like Joseph, whose purpose unfolded in Egypt, far from home).
  • Mental (like Mary, who embraced a radical mindset shift to carry Jesus).
  • Professional (like Peter, who moved from fisherman to “fisher of men”).

Direction answers the question: Where should I apply my identity?

Two ways to find direction:

  1. Analyze your life story – Look at the unplanned turns, the battles you’ve fought, and the doors that opened without your effort. These often point to your place of purpose.
  2. Seek feedback – Ask mentors, peers, family, and conduct structured assessments to see what patterns they see in your journey. Harvard research confirms: feedback sharpens purpose.

Purpose rarely unfolds in comfort zones. It pulls you out of the familiar, into places where growth, courage, and obedience are required.

Take Action

Ask yourself: Where has life been leading me?

Then invite three trusted voices to share where they think your strengths and story align. Sometimes others see the direction more clearly than we do.
